Speech by Professor Takeshi Naganuma from Hiroshima University

Yesterday Prof. Takeshi Naganuma, an Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Biosphere Science, Hiroshima University came to our school and gave a talk to our junior high school students about his research interests, evolution and the bio-geography of “cosmopolitan” (globally distributed) microorganisms. He also regaled us with tales from his student days, such as how he studied his textbooks on his own during the spring vacation so the following year's lessons were a "review" of what he had studied. This meant he could devote himself to Judo club! He told us about his work in various environments from the North Pole to the South Pole and his dream of humans one day exploring and living on Mars.
